Whether you’re into Tai Chi, Qigong, cycling, or creative flow, this guide offers holistic advice rooted in seasonal TCM principles like “Spring–Summer nourish yang; Autumn–Winter nourish yin” (春夏养阳,秋冬养阴).

Why Summer Is the Best Time to Exercise

For me, summer is the best time to exercise! There are so many reasons to get out, including some of the more western wellness thoughts around:

  • Getting my source of vitamin D from the sun
  • Light exposure and sunshine exposures creates happiness
  • My body really does follow the circadian rhythm, especially if I truly honor going to bed early between 9-10 pm, I will naturally wake before my 6 am alarm
  • I feel full rested and balanced to live my fullest during the day

So on top of these conscious life style choices, I am very intentional about how food and drink can balance my body as well. This is really part of my philosophy of life! We are what we eat. We are what we think. We are what we create ourselves to be!

Getting started on this journey… what you may need:

I love these glass tea diffusers that have an inner separator where you can just lift the ingredients and it sits on the lid! So easy to use, dishwasher safe, and you can refill throughout the day!

Alternatively, I also use these single use eco friendly recyclable teabags to put in my dried ingredients and steep in boiling water. Perfect for on the go!

Dried butterfly pea flowers are an amazing cooling tea that reduces inflammation and stress.

These dried goji berries (or wolfberries) are perfect for both teas and soups!

You can use both large chrysanthemum or baby buds. They are both amazing to cool the body, clear toxicity and moisten lungs.
