Dampness doesn’t only mean water content, this can include phlegm, cholesterol, or anything considered as metabolic waste (even poo poo!).

Nature:  Slightly warming (due to the majority of the more warmer ingredients)

TCM Tea for dampness

TCM Tea for Dampness, Eliminate Bloating, Sluggishness & Water Retention

Struggling with heaviness, sluggishness, or water retention? 🌧️ In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this is called dampness—a kind of metabolic waste like phlegm, excess water, or cholesterol. In this video, I’ll show you how to make a powerful TCM tea for dampness using dried hawthorn, chrysanthemum, corn silk, tangerine peel, rice husks, and a touch of rock sugar. Perfect for rainy, humid weather to promote urination, digestion, and balance.

✨ Ingredients & Benefits:

  • Dried hawthorn – warms, aids digestion, moves blood
  • Chrysanthemum flowers – cools liver & kidneys, clears heat
  • Corn silk – natural diuretic, supports gallbladder
  • Tangerine peel – regulates Qi, dries dampness
  • Rice husks – moves stagnation, clears intestines
  • Rock sugar – loosens phlegm, strengthens Qi

What’s involved?

Prep time: 2 mins

Steep time: 2 mins

Total time: 4 mins

Serves: 1 cup

Ingredients

Prep Instructions

  1. Add all the dried ingredients into your glass tea diffuser
  2. Add in all your dried ingredients into your cup
  3. Add boiling water to the top
  4. Cover and steep for 2 minutes
  5. Stir with a small spoon
  6. Remove the inner diffuser from the cup and set aside
  7. Add in honey or rock sugar (although I will add altogether, but you can add more depending on flavor and taste preferences)
  8. Stir again. Serve and enjoy!

What you’ll need:

I love these glass tea diffusers that have an inner separator where you can just lift the ingredients and it sits on the lid! So easy to use, dishwasher safe, and you can refill throughout the day!

Alternatively, I also use these single use eco friendly recyclable teabags to put in my dried ingredients and steep in boiling water. Perfect for on the go!

You can use both large chrysanthemum or baby buds. They are both amazing to cool the body, clear toxicity and moisten lungs.

Dried hawthorn

Dried hawthorn berries are common in both Western and Eastern herbal fruit. Be sure to buy ones without the seeds.
