Wow, it seems like everyone is sick these days!
And this often does happen with a change in temperature as we move from Summer to Fall (or Autumn). The fluctuation of temperature catches us off guard and the start of school creates an environment for sharing germs (like when our kids first started kindergarten and they’d bring home every possible virus).
The key symptoms I’m seeing this time include fevers, sore throats (to start) and eventually do turn into coughs.
What’s involved?
Prep time: 2 mins
Cook time: 5-7 mins (on high heat)
Total time: 7-9 mins
Serves: 2 cups
Ingredients
- 5 pieces of dried licorice root
- 1 teaspoon of dried black eye beans
- 1 teaspoon of dried honeysuckle flowers
- 1 teaspoon of dried chrysanthemum flowers
- 1 teaspoon of dried apricot kernals
- 1 teaspoon of liquid honey
- 2.5 cups of water
Cooking Instructions
- In a stove top safe teapot (this is mine from Amazon), add in all your dried ingredients
- Add in your 2.5 cups of cold water
- Boil on high heat (covered) for 5-7 minutes, or until the flowers have opened up and you’ve got a beautiful rich golden colored tea
- Set aside to cool for a bit before you add the honey
- Add in your honey, stir, serve and enjoy!
Any benefits?
- Dried apricot kernels, which strengthens the lungs and reduces cough
- Dried honeysuckle, which clears heat and removes toxicity
- Dried chrysanthemum flowers, which clears wind-heat and clears the eyes
- Dried licorice root, which nourishes the Qi and clears heat
- Dried black eyed beans, which clears damp-heat and strengthens the spleen
- Honey, which detoxifies and reinforces the spleen and stomach

What you’ll need:
I’m using this amazing stove top safe teapot (from Amazon), which has a strainer. If you want to make it easier, just put the ingredients into the strainer and remove after boiling. This is also dishwasher safe and perfect for making 5 cups of teas!
